Big name tenants sign up for The Pavilion in Bredasdorp

The R150 million 8 000m² Bredasdorp retail centre The Pavilion, is 97 percent let.

Nearly all 8 000m² of retail space has been let at the R150 million Bredasdorp shopping centre, The Pavilion, a joint venture between Asrin Property Developers and Harry Viljoen Properties, which opened in mid-2009.

Shiraz Onia, Asrin’s construction director, says almost all the tenants are members of big national brands.

“The latest tenants to be signed on are SA Multi Loans and a book shop. Leading tenants in the complex are Checkers and Checkers Liquor, Village Mart (a general dealer which is aimed at farming communities), Clicks, the Crazy Store, Markhams, Totalsports, Foschini, Tekkie Town and Sheet Street. ATMs are available around the clock.

“On the food side the centre has Spur, Wimpy, a chicken franchise, coffee shops and a biltong shop. All have been in operation successfully since the opening of the complex.”

He says the reaction of the local community has been very positive from the outset. On Saturday mornings especially, thousands of shoppers visit The Pavilion – and Asrin has been assured that an expansion of the centre with more national chain tenants would be welcome. The extension is being planned, and may come on stream this year.

Onia says the centre’s success is at least partially due to the fact that the nearest comparable range and variety of modern national outlets is at Somerset West.

“The centre’s design has a strong local flavour. Two silo-type towers in true Overberg tradition set the tone and provide attractive office and retail space, and shaded walkways protect all the shop fronts. The Pavilion has adequate parking for 600 cars in the basement and on grade parking as well.
