De Caravel frail-care facility launched in Hartenbos

OPEN: The new De Caravel frail centre at the Monte Christo Retirement Village in Hartenbos, near Mossel Bay.

The De Caravel frail care facility recently opened its doors to senior residents of the southern Cape at Hartenbos, near Mossel Bay, in the heart of the Garden Route.

Overlooking the picturesque Monte Christo Eco Estate and conveniently located within the Monte Christo Retirement Village, De Caravel promises to be a welcome addition to the region’s aged health care options.

Mark Teuchert of Lazercor Developments, says the opening of De Caravel concludes the offering at Monte Christo Retirement Village.

The centre is equipped to international standards of comfort and care, with technology-intelligent monitoring systems, including optional CCTV cameras in each frail-care room. Services to be offered by the staff under the supervision of a professional nursing sister, will include comprehensive 24-hour nursing and general care for all geriatric and terminal conditions.

The frail care centre has been designed to cater for 16 patients, assuring privacy and personal service. It also houses the clubhouse, including a dining room and facilities such as a hairdressing salon, library, computer centre ladies bar and lounge.

Kallie Smit of the Mossel Bay Municipality spoke at the opening of the centre on behalf of mayor, Marie Ferreira.

“There is a huge demand for retirement villages throughout South Africa. Many retirement facilities have long waiting lists and the chances of ever getting into one gets smaller each day. De Caravel will fulfill the important community needs of providing basic health care, frail care, home care and assisted living. It also provides its frail care services to people over 50 who are not living in the Monte-Christo Retirement Village.”

For those who prefer to live more independently but still need assistance daily, the frail care centre will offer an assisted living option, with supervision during the night, management of medication and the provision of meals.

A clinic designed for the residents of the Monte Christo Retirement Village and Eco Estate will offer daily consulting times for procedures such as measuring blood pressure, as well as wound dressing and general consultations, plus a 24-hour emergency response anywhere in the village.
