The five-star Crystal Towers Hotel & Spa, part of the African Pride Collection, opened at Century City this week in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup draw.
The 180 room hotel forms part of a R750m development which also includes 91 luxury apartments, offices, conference and meeting facilities, a Life Day Spa, restaurants and an internal street linking the apartment and hotel towers.
Greg Deans, a director of the Rabie Property Group responsible for the development, said the firm had chosen the African Pride Collection because of the group’s exhibited skills in leading hotels such as Melrose Arch.
“African Price also understands new urban environments and their requirements. The style of hotel reflects the essence of Century City, and is aimed primarily at high-end business travellers with everything tailored to meet their needs,” says Deans.
“The hotel offers extensive conference facilities which will establish it as a fully fledged convention centre. Facilities are tailored to the needs of small and larger functions with nine furnished, air-conditioned private boardrooms able to accommodate 12 to 20 people and a large conference centre, which can be customised, capable of hosting up to 300 delegates.
“Century City is in the centre of the Cape Town metropole within easy reach of the Cape Town International Airport, the CBD and the northern and southern suburbs and is a prime example of vertical integration of business, leisure and lifestyle. This all played an important role in African Prides’ decision to locate here.”
Century City has more than 220 000 m2 of prime office space and 3 500 residential properties, and about 40 000 people are now living or working in the precinct. In addition, more than 21 million people pass through the neighbouring Canal Walk Shopping Centre shopping precinct each year.
“Leading national and international businesses as well as numerous small to medium size companies have set up at Century City, creating a demand for luxury accommodation and conferencing and meeting facilities,” says Deans.
The Crystal Towers development also includes an apartment tower, with the foyer accessed off the same internal street as the hotel.
The 91 luxury apartments range from studios designed primarily for corporate and business travellers to larger apartments for owner occupiers. Apartments are priced from R1.5m to over R10m for the luxury duplex penthouses.
Deans says 22 of the apartments have already been spoken for. Construction of the apartments is due for completion in March 2010, before the public launch.
“Investors can place their furnished and air conditioned apartments into the Crystal Towers rental pool,” says Deans.
