Breede Valley farm for sale at R5.9 million.
The hidden secret of the scenic Breede River Valley is its treasure of quality agricultural real estate says Seeff Bonnievale agent, Neil Rademeyer.
Situated about two hours’ drive from Cape Town, the region is cheese and wine country and a popular tourist bolthole, he says. The area includes the Route 66 Robertson Wine Route with wine cellars that have in recent years won great acclaim. Festivals such as the Wacky Wine Festival attract flocks of visitors who are always looking for something new and interesting in the area.
“Whether buyers and investors want to carry on a commercial farming trade or capitalise on the tourism opportunities in the area, there is plenty of variety to choose from when it comes to agricultural properties,” says Rademeyer.
Surrounded by the Langeberg and Riviersonderend mountains and with the Breede River as its most defining characteristic, the Bonnievale region is one of the most beautiful and fertile areas with a variety of farms. Prices range from R5.9 million for a 189ha vine and dairy farm on Route 60 between Ashton and Swellendam to R12 m for a 133 ha wine farm.
“The vine and dairy farm includes a 100 year old homestead in a quaint setting that makes it ideal for use as a farmstall or a boutique as well as a manager’s house and a mountain cabin next to a dam. During the winter months 50ha is planted with oats, a popular crop of the area. Wine is sold to a private wine cellar and milk from the 50 head of cattle on the farm is delivered to a private cheese factory. The property has three dams and a fountain that gets its water from the mountain. The price includes all equipment and livestock.
“The 133 ha wine farm produced 650 ton of wine last year and this and additional 5ha were planted which should increase the production. There is also some fruit on the farm and 72ha is planted with oats during winter. The land is irrigated from a large dam using an irrigation system. The property includes a homestead, a large farm store, stables, two sheds and labourer cottages.”
