Integrated housing project in Glenhaven nears completion

Construction is nearing completion at The Block, precinct one of an integrated housing project in Glenhaven, Bellville South.

The Block, precinct one of an integrated housing project in Glenhaven, Bellville South, will be completed soon with the first residents occupying their apartments this month.

The development is on a 7.2 ha infill site on the corner of Peter Barlow and Bester Roads and will consist of 253 units for rental in the GAP market. It is close to public transport, the University of the Western Cape (UWC), the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), schools and various economic opportunities.

On completion, the development will consist of 944 apartments.

Jean-Pierre Nortier, development director of Devmark Property Group, says construction of the civil works on precinct two has been completed and the main contractor has been appointed.

“Precinct two will consist of 416 social housing units for rental and expected completion is December 2019,” he says.

“The development will establish new standards for social housing and will be ideal for young couples as well as families looking for secure, well built accommodation in a great location at affordable rentals according to income. Precinct three will be excellent for first time buyers.”

According to Nortier, the development also holds enormous advantages for the area through contributions and improvement to the infrastructure in the immediate surrounds.

”There is a huge backlog of affordable housing stock, especially those located near opportunities of education, employment, transport and amenities. The Block is close to the Bellville CBD and Sacks Circle, as well as public amenities such as schools, state hospitals and public libraries, and it’s only 1.2km from UWC and the CPUT Bellville Campus,” Nortier concludes.
