Rawson Developers are building another block of apartments – The Winchester – in Observatory, a suburb known for its strong community spirit, easy-going atmosphere, casual restaurants, trendy bars and cafés.

Each of the 105 New York-style apartments has been designed to maximise living space, with integrated eating and living areas. Features include floor-to-ceiling glass panels that allow unrestricted views of Cape Town and the surrounding mountains.

Green design elements include centralised heat pumps, LED lighting and VOC-free paint, and carefully considered communal areas facilitate neighbourliness.

Observatory dates back to 1657, and gets its name from the Royal Observatory Cape of Good Hope, which was built in 1820.

Off-plan sales of The Winchester were launched in February. Buyers are automatically entered into a draw to have the apartment they buy decorated by a renowned homeware or décor brand. Two prizes are available: a one-bedroom apartment furnished to the value of R100 000 and a two-bedroom apartment furnished to the value of R200 000.

Units are priced from R1 699 990.
