The finishing touches are being put in place as the much-anticipated Norval Foundation centre for art in Steenberg, Cape Town nears completion.

Envisioned by dhk architects as a modern pavilion for art, it is set against a mountain backdrop and overlooks an indigenous landscaped garden that integrates a rehabilitated wetland, a sculpture park, an amphitheatre and a picnic site.

The architects say: ”The Norval Foundation has 1 250m2 of exhibition space with six small galleries, a large sculpture gallery, events space and a special exhibitions gallery. It also includes a library and a lecture room, offices, an artists’ residence, a restaurant, a bar, a shop and underground parking bays.

“The centre is due to open on April 28, and will house works from South Africa and beyond in a multi-sensory celebration of art, architecture and landscape.”
