The new 44 suite accommodation block at the four-star Shelley Point Hotel on the Cape West Coast will be officially opened on May 1.
The new 44 suite accommodation block at the four-star Shelley Point Hotel on the Cape West Coast 170 km north of Cape Town will be officially opened on the 1st of May 2010, says Vanessa Northing, marketing director for Dale Capital, which is now a major shareholder in the project.
“With a total of 88 suites, the new hotel will be able to accept conference and other groups of up to 160 people,” says Northing. “Conferences and functions provide 60% or more of the turnover at Shelley Point and, although the tourist intake increases each month, conferences and functions numbers are also rising.”
The hotel was 56% occupied over the holiday period, which Dale Capital regards as highly satisfactory for a venue that went into full functioning only from October last year.
The new suites are in most respects like the existing suites with some small but significant changes. Half of them are simplex, half duplex, giving the new complex three above-ground levels and a parking basement which links with that of the first block.
The 64m2 simplex suites and the 72m2duplexes all have balconies and many have views of the Britannia Bay coastline and the golf course. A big attraction of all the duplex suites is that the upper blocks are open to the thatched roofing.
Desmond O’Connor, Shelley Point’s new manager who is from the Three Cities Group which now manages the hotel, says the décor has a nautical flavour, the predominant colours being blue and white. Each unit has 60m2 of sandstone tiles, a king-size double bed and a living room couch which can be converted into a bed. All units are equipped with plasma TVs and kitchenettes. The bathrooms have Meranti screens which can fold back making the TVs visible from the baths, some of which have a spa bath facility.
Allan Burgoyne, Shelley Point’s resident director, says the accommodation blocks have their own private swimming pool and a small alfresco bistro area with its own kitchen, which will serve light meals, cocktails, wines and bar drinks.
