Boutique wine farm overlooks Hout Bay

The 1 000 m2 farmhouse overlooks the vineyards.

Constantia Nek farm is for sale through Pam Golding Properties at R28.5 million.

The farm occupies over four hectares at the very top of Main Road, Hout Bay overlooking a 180 degree sweep from Constantia Nek to the Twelve Apostles mountain range.

Currently run as a private home and boutique wine farm, Constantia Nek farm has enormous potential for further development, says PGP’s area principal for Hout Bay, Patrick Maingard.

“Its neighbour, the Houtkapperspoort Estate, has already proven the popularity of this spectacular site as a guest house venue,” he says, “and you could also consider applying for planning permission to convert the farm into an enclosed secure estate. There is also ample opportunity to further develop and market the existing facilities – for example, this would make a superb wedding venue.”

The farm has six acres under vines, including a mix of varietals from Sauvignon Blanc to Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and Viognier. Production totalled 12 000 bottles in 2009, and the 2010 harvest yielded just under 6 500 bottles, due to extensive pruning back of the vines during the course of the year. The vines are now six years old and the farm is in its third year of production, with the wines being made at nearby Buitenverwachting.

“What began as a hobby for the owners has grown into something much bigger,” says Maingard, “and is now virtually paying for itself. There is room for a further two acres to be planted to vines, and for negotiation with Buitenverwachting to buy some of the grapes for its own use. Farming equipment including a tractor, plough, a sprayer and a Caterpillar bulldozer are also available, at an additional R200 000.”
