Boston Place in Bellville has been renovated.
Bellville is part of the greater metropolitan area of Cape Town. Originally called the 12 Mile Post (12-Myl-Pos), as it is 12 miles from Cape Town’s city centre, it was founded as a railway station on the line to Stellenbosch and Strand.
It was renamed Bellville in 1861, after Cape Surveyor General Charles Bell. Preserving its history and ensuring that the Bellville skyline remains an icon of the Western Cape demands highly skilled contractors.
A complex that has was recently redecorated in Bellville is Boston Place. According to Indawo Painting and Waterproofing, the body corporate identified critical areas that needed attention to restore the beauty of the complex and protect it from a volatile climate. Maintenance is a critical element and, from Boston Place’s point of view, high up on its agenda to protect owners’ investments.
Indawo managing director, Peter Jäck, says: “Townhouse living is a global attraction but, unlike freehold property, the maintenance process can be somewhat more complex. Owners rely on the body corporate to attend to maintenance issues and these are often difficult tasks. Where there are higher numbers of units in a complex, more sophisticated solutions are needed. The body corporate has to ensure that the interests of all owners and tenants are taken into account, from a cost point of view and the discomfort of having to deal with lengthy maintenance periods.”
Boston Place received a complete external redecoration of the buildings and perimeter walls. The roof gullies were waterproofed and all windows sealed to provide protection against rain. Finally, after two coats of paint, the colour of which was selected by the body corporate, Boston Place has become one of the most aesthetically pleasing complexes in Bellville and offers a safe property investment.
Bellville property is on the investment radar as investors look for affordable property close to the winelands. This suburb has a host of amenities such as restaurants, shopping malls - including Tyger Valley shopping centre, one of the largest shopping malls in the country - boutique stores and an 18-hole golf course set among the hills with panoramic views of the Hottentots Holland mountains. In addition to excellent medical facilities and good schools, the University of the Western Cape and a campus of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology are in Bellville. Being close to Cape Town and other tourist hotspots, its affordable commercial property has experienced an influx of businesses, making it a bustling commercial hub.
And Bellville has a definite place in the hearts of many South African artists. Musicians that hail from this area include Fokofpolisiekar, Jax Panix and Jack Parow. In 2007, Meg Ryan and William H Macy completed the last day of principal photography for the movie, The Deal, at the Bellville Civic Centre and Jaco Fouché’s novel, 2 Dae in Mei, is set here.
Jäck says: “Bellville is a special suburb, we are in it. To restore some of its buildings is a privilege and to see the community and local business flourishing fills us with a sense of pride. With bodies corporate and building managers committed to the upkeep of structures, Bellville remains an area where property will always be a safe bet for investors.”
