“The Nirvana could be used as a floating hotel or a private home, says Seeff Commercial Western Seaboard chief executive, Heinrich Koorts.
“The Nirvana has 500m2 of accommodation under roof. It was built to the highest specifications by naval engineers in 2004 and took four years to complete. The vessel was originally designed to sail up and down the Breede River, but when Sanparks heard about the boat they offered the owner an agreement to moor her in Kraalbaai. The agreement with Sanparks is still in place and now also includes the use and management of the Larus, Sanparks’ own houseboat.
“The Nirvana has two lounges, two viewing decks and has maintained jetty and mooring facilities, supplied by Sanparks. The houseboat and the Langebaan Lagoon have been featured on a number of television channels and in several local and foreign magazines. An individual buyer could own a remarkable holiday home, or a commercial investor could continue running the floating hotel, which accommodates 24 people, is manned by four staff members who live on board, as well as operational staff housed by Sanparks.”
Koorts believes the business has enormous potential.
“Nirvana’s turnover and nett profit are substantial. High occupation rates are being achieved without any corporate marketing, and additional value added services such as catering are all ready to be implemented and could treble the turnover. Additional beds on Sanparks’ boat could also increase the number of bed nights and corporate opportunities.”
Koorts says the signed agreement with Sanparks guarantees the owner’s rights as well as a guaranteed buy back value on the vessel. This opportunity should appeal to wealthy people searching for exclusive holiday destinations, existing hotel operators wanting to expand or companies looking for investment opportunities that could also be used for entertaining staff and clients.
At present, Nirvana is permanently moored at Kraalbaai in the West Coast National Park.
