Highveld Mall set to get R100 million extension.
The 40 000 m2 Highveld Mall - the only regional shopping centre in Emalahleni (Witbank) – is undergoing a R100 million expansion to meet retailer and shopper demand and is scheduled to open in November.
A number of new retailers will open for the first time in the area in the 6 000 m2 expansion on the western part of the existing mall. Also, Highveld Mall’s busy Pick n Pay will be expanding into an additional 1 000 m2 floor space.
New tenants opening in the Highveld Mall extension will include Dis-Chem, @Home, Coricraft, Bargain Books, Nino’s, Baby Boom, American Swiss Jewellers, Standard Bank, Capitec Bank, Sterns and Sass Diva.
There are also plans for a further extension of Highveld Mall on the horizon, bringing more shopping to Emalahleni, say the centre’s co-owners, Resilient Property Income Fund Limited, Changing Tides 91 (Pty) Limited, Flanagan & Gerard Property Development and Investment, and Mogwele Trading 278 (Pty) Limited. The owners are planning a further expansion of some 12 000 m2 which, once completed, will take the centre to more than 60 000 m2 of gross lettable area.
“Together with the adjoining Ridge Casino and Entertainment Resort the expanded Highveld Mall will be further entrenched as the definitive, dominant shopping and entertainment node in Emalahleni,” says Sandra Vanderwalt, general manager of Highveld Mall.
“The expansion became necessary as a result of customer needs and retailer requests. The number of shoppers has increased substantially since Highveld Mall opened in April 2007 and we are consistently experiencing growth in trade,” says Vanderwalt.
Patrick Flanagan, of Flanagan & Gerard, says the extension of Highveld Mall has attracted the interest of a number of specialised retailers, keen on the excellent location.
“Highveld Mall’s expansion plans will provide good opportunities for the community and retailers, and we see this as a win-win solution to unlock greater value,” says Johann Kriek of Resilient Property Income Fund.
