Sandton Skye, a new R1.5 billion landmark development in Africa’s richest square mile, will break ground in August when construction starts on the first of its three towers.

Sandton Skye will be developed by CHN Eagle, a joint venture between the developer of Eagle Canyon Golf Estates and a subsidiary of the China Railway Group, the second largest construction company in the world (ranked 242 on the Fortune Global 500 companies list).

“Sandton Skye is a blue chip investment opportunity in the financial hub of Sandton with 80% of the project being priced at less than R2 million at a fixed contract price for delivery August 2012, not linked to CPI or inflation,” says Lynn Petzer from Lynn Estates, which is marketing Sandton Skye and has played an integral role in developing the Sandton skyline over the past 21 years.

Fifty percent of the first tower of Sandton Skye has already been sold including three of the four penthouses at R17 million each.

Having marketed some of Sandton’s highest profile developments - including the Michelangelo Towers, the Raphael and Sandhurst Towers among others - Lynn Estates has seen Sandton explode in growth and value in recent years.

“Rather than an apartment block turned into a hotel, Sandton Skye will be a world class experience designed with cutting edge innovations from inception. It will be a five star urban resort – whether you are a guest or a resident,” says Petzer.

Sandton Skye will offer buyers the options of buy to live or let, or to sell and placement in the hotel rental pool. Petzer says the occupancy rate at Sandton luxury hotels averages over 70%.

“The development will be managed by international hotel operators, the Gatsby Group. Five star standards and rates will be applied to optimise investments and apartment owners will also be able to trade up to 30 days of their apartments as an exchange option in one of 55 000 other high-end, five star properties worldwide affiliated to the Gatsby Group,” says Petzer.

The luxury hotel convenience facilities will extend beyond the apartments and will include a dedicated front desk and concierge, a restaurant, a cocktail bar, a deli, an in-room chef by arrangement, a private lounge library, a fitness centre with an heated indoor lap pool, a wellness spa and health bar, a hair salon, a guard house, biometric security, butler service, car valet service, 24 hour room service and a Kids zone.

Conference facilities, a travel agency and a business centre will all be part of the hotel-lifestyle development’s home office facility. Other amenities include 3 500 m2 of landscaped gardens and an outdoor rim flow pool with wooden decks and double day bed loungers.

Sandton Skye was designed by AMA Architects.
