Construction has commenced on The Terraces, a new development of 144 apartments at Century City.

The R240 million development will consist of three buildings of varying heights, and is being undertaken by Rabie Property Group, the overall developer of Century City.

One of the blocks will have three storey walk-ups and the other two will vary in height from four to six storeys giving a terraced skyscape adding interest to the streetscape. The development will have three lifts.

Rabie director Miguel Rodrigues says The Terraces will provide a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments varying in size from 51 m2 to 156 m2, excluding balconies. There will also be two duplex penthouses with their front doors on the sixth level.

Most of apartments will be north facing and some will have westerly views of Table Mountain and Table Bay.

Rodrigues says the development will have access control with 24 hour security, a swimming pool, a clubhouse, extensive landscaping and a number of green pocket parks.

“The Terraces is across the road from Curro private school where the new high school is being built and will be opening its doors in January. It is also next to a new 2 200 m2 convenience shopping centre which will be modelled on the successful Palmyra Junction shopping centre in Claremont and is due to open at the end of 2018. The school and shopping centre will add to the appeal of living at The Terraces.”

Earthworks are under way and construction is expected to start next month with a phased completion from July to December next year. Frankipile has been appointed the piling contractor and Big Ben Construction is the main contractor.

Rodrigues says the development of the Curro High School, The Terraces and the convenience retailing centre will complete development of this node at Century City.

All the apartments at The Terraces have been sold before construction started.
